Can It Wait…

A Look at the Deadly sins {6 of 7}

2–3 minutes

#6 – {Sloth} – Sloth is described as an excessive laziness or failure to act and utilize your talent. Sloth is the deadly sin that’s spurs other sins to flourish and tempt you from prayer.

Early in the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Pope Francis warned Christians against succumbing to sadness and sloth during lockdowns.

Take a Break

As with a job or anything in life we need to take a break to rest up before continuing, but at some point getting back to it is what matters.

Life has a way of interrupting sloth if given the chance but the longer it takes to get life started again the easier it is to stay in “sloth mode”.

I have been guilty of sloth mode more than once in my lifetime and admit it took something more than just wishful thinking to get me motivated into putting it behind me for the time being.

In saying that I will admit to other “deadly” sins coming into play because of the sloth mode, such as Wrath, Lust and Gluttony.

Wrath comes into play with sloth as I get angry at others for “pressuring me” and anger builds into wrath. Lust in the fact that the “intense desire” to eat is a form of “Lusting after” and is also Gluttony to the point of no return.

Woe is Me

The problem with sloth is it’s so damn comfortable, there I said it. Who of you don’t get down right relaxed when your stretched out and watching your favorite movie until the movie watches you? I’ll bet the over on that one, yes sir!

Anyway getting back to sloth, I’ll be back in a minute…

Ok I made it back. I’ve fallen in a deep and dark depression a couple of times in life’s journey and sloth marched in like it was in the Macy’s parade.

I’m no doctor but my thought is that these two moods {?} are entwined as when depressed I’m in Major sloth mode, not wanting to get out of bed or even think.

Even when my mind is running in “normal” mode I slip into sloth mode. “I’ll get it tomorrow” or think about something fifteen times before actually doing it.

Loss with Sloth

The fact that I’ve wasted my talents over this whole journey through life is a testament to how I have abused this “deadly sin”. I was blessed with the ability to draw cartoonish figures {dabbled in it} music reigns in my family yet I {dabbled} in playing piano. Pursuing love is another area where sloth comes into play as I get quiet and withdrawn and fail to act on it.

Dawg Gone Good

It’s “dawg” gone good I am arising out of the sloth mode and moving forward in my mind’s journey as well as life’s. It’s ok to hit the sloth mode in life as long as you don’t make it a staple, until next time – peace.
