Simplicity

Home Sweet Home

This post shows a little of how I spend quality time at home and of course it will have something in it about my favorite college football team. But first a random video to listen to while you scroll. {A new feature in the dawg house}

Simplicity in the Tune Section

As you can see in the photos above there are two constants in my life, music and Alabama football. The stereo is a 1974 pioneer sx-850 with a rt-1011l and the turntable is a pl-112d with Advent Heritage speakers. This set of equipment was made between 1972-1976.

I have around 370 albums ranging from Frank Sinatra or The Ventures circa 1960s to The Pretty Reckless circa 2022. The selections are to me superb and leaves me content while listening to them. I have 36 reels that allow for 1 1/2 albums per side so not having anything to listen to is impossible for me. With that said I admit that I still have sirrus XM and listen to it too.

About a year ago I had the receiver gone thru and refurbished to new specs. The reel to reel I overhauled myself and the end result is pure happiness. With the price of albums now a days starting in the mid $20 range and climbing from there I am glad to have purchased most of these when they ran $6-8 bucks apiece.

We used to go to a small pop owned record store called “Smokey’s” in Fort Wayne IN and browse after school and spend hours in there on Saturday.. Most of the music you find in the Tunes section here I have on vinyl and just post Youtube videos of what I’m listening to at the time minus the crackles and pops.

Roll Tide Roll !

If you know anything about Alabama fans then you will understand when I say I eagerly await the Iron Bowl each year as we get to play that college from the cow town over there. Auburn fans I understand your frustration but ROLL TIDE!

Over the years I have made friends with many Auburn fans and to this day still razz them every chance I get. That’s not to say they don’t give as good as they get or try anyway. lol

I lived on the Alabama river for nine years just outside of Montgomery and in season there would be bbqs fired up in every yard. The game festivities would start on Saturday morning with breakfast & Bloody Mary chasers and by game time the beer would be flowing, banners flying, eats and parties heard through the neighborhood, all in fun.

As I’m now living in Big Ten country and more precisely in Michigan I no longer have the comradery of the SEC fans but rather I listen to the fans of worthless nuts complain or Go Blue fans celebrate. It is still fun as college football gets in the blood and I still watch every Alabama game televised, although I do miss putting Eli Gold on the stereo while muting the TV and hearing him call the game.

The one thing that I find satisfying is when some buckeye fan yells team spirit and I respond with “ROLL TIDE!”

until next time –
