“I Played”

Times sure have changed since when I was small
There once was a time that I stood proud and tall
I'd work ninety hours a week and still have time to play
I was fit and young and definitely on my way
Staying until closing time at any bar I walked in
I've lived a life of adventure, parties and sin
Got into the fast lane and wouldn't slow down
I was on top of the world and feeling damn proud
In this journey of life I have learned a lot of lessons
And I hope to learn more before I get to that final destination
Honesty is the way but sometimes feelings are spared with a lie
Many lives can be shattered with the wink of an eye
And when you're not looking is when love comes to town
So if you're not paying attention you will let yourself down
You can't always live for your friends and try to do right
Sometimes you have to take what you want and just hold on tight
Take the cards you are dealt and learn to play the game
Don't always fold, that would make life's journey to lame
Sometimes you have to bluff and raise up the pot
Sometimes you have to fight for what someone else has got
Draw from the past experiences of life and play to win
Let lady luck blow on the dice and put all your stakes in
Because everyone is a winner and it feels good when you say
"I didn't stand back and watch, I jumped in and played"
until next time –
