In the early morning of May 20th 1769, a Saturday morning, Albert the owner of the Raleigh Tavern in Williamsburg, Virginia put out his fresh baked rye marble to greet his morning customers. A baker most of his life Albert was the best bread maker in three villiages.

Sabrina, his beautiful wife prepared fresh coffee to be shared with the warm marbled rye her husband was famous for. Sabrina had a strange feeling in the pit of her stomach this morning as she ground the black beans for the Coterie that met here each Saturday.

The hushed talk of her husband and customers left her confused as to why she wasn’t able to share in the laughter and joy today. She had always been welcomed before but today Albert told her to stay out of sight and remain quiet.

A couple of men Sabrina had never seen were in the group of exclusive friends and were quietly mentioning a legislative salvo purposed for ‘taxation without representation’ launched three days ago by George Washington. One of the men Patrick Henry, called ‘Pat’ by his friends was overheard by Sabrina saying “give me liberty or give me death”.

After the meeting had ended and the tavern was once again quiet, Sabrina questioned her husband about the meeting. Albert was in no hurry to share the information he had gotten in the meeting and the next day the terrible news that someone in the village was suspected of treason and would be brought in front of the council for sentencing. Sabrina was scared for her husband as she knew in her heart that if found guilty of this horrendous crime he would hang.
