I’m Back Home

Little Journey, Big Results

This little journey with big results was a smooth transition today and after 3 1/2 hours I was released to return home and “get to bloggin!”

Since I couldn’t have anything to eat or drink after midnight the morning brought the challenge of operating my mind without my mud! Having a positive mindset I arrive at the hospital and begin the process of checking in. When I walk into the surgery prep area I go in with humor which the nurses enjoyed along with other staff members within ear shot.

Not the Same

I’m an ornery old fart most of the time and this morning was no exception. When the nurse came in to inform me that she needed to shave me for pre-op I commented that she was a “kinkie nurse” which cracked the ice and made the whole experience enjoyable for all involved.

I have had 5 prior major operations on my “innards” over the years and coming home after any of them meant days later. Today started out the same as far as pre-op but knowing this was an outpatient surgery made all the difference.

Out of the Fog

From a deep sleep to awake and foggy headed I had the same nurse talking to me and trying to bring me back to reality. After clearing my head she asked me a question {I can’t truthfully} remember but I do remember the answer. Coffee, and I was surprised to find that once I was fully awake and answering question with senseable answers they brought me a large coffee!

Needless to say my day got better. I was amazed to see a little 3″ x 2″ dressing just above the navel, and very little pain. I’ve never had a surgery that didn’t require having a full torso scar left behind.

After 2 1/2 cups of coffee I’m almost back to normal and since I peed I was allowed to come home with instructions to not lift anything more that a small bottle of water but.. make sure to ice down the wound 3-4 times for 30 minutes each time. Also get up and walk frequently but put no strain on stomach muscles.

As the meds are wearing off the pain is increasing but still minor compared to what I am used to.

Gratitude Given

On this path I travelled today I am very grateful for the professionalism of the doctors and staff that showed compassion and provided excellent care for me along with the prayers and wishes from Mary G at 50 Happens and Phoebe at Drops of Ink. Ladies, I cannot express the heartfelt emotion I felt reading your comments when I got back. Thank you so much.
