Round Two Book Review

Another Review

I posted a review called “Sensational Sunday” Where I did my first review on Dawn Pisturino’s book “Ariel’s Songs”

This review is going to be a little different than that one was as I am criticizing my own work. I started this on June 14th and finished it today.

I am trying to put a book together and am making damn good progress I think and then BOOM! setbacks happen. I’m not complaining as them there big Booms might upset me at first but in the longer run I realize that these are good lessons learned.

And I sail on through rough waters.

I’m cruising along with minor setbacks and making slow progress but progress just the same. I ‘ve been told not to rush through this process and make sure it is done right and so I give up on word {which confuses the hell out of me and opt in to Canva {Thanx again Dawn!}. Canva is a pretty cool app for designing all kinds of different things and offer many designs to get started for free. Free is always good right?.

Today finds me ahead of the curve on progress and I need to step back and let these shoulder blades rest up as the amount of time I’m putting in on this computer has got them feeling as sore as… an impacted wisdom tooth on a holiday.

Even so, I decide to take it easy on the book and find myself writing multiple posts instead. Will I ever learn?

I’m Back

So, after taking a break and learning to slow down and re-evaluate where I was at I scrap the covers I designed and start learning just how much I don’t know.

The last design, the heart with a black background was not mine so it was eliminated first. And in reverse order I made and rejected each one. So here I am with a ebook full of poetry and no cover.

Start From Scratch

Round two finds me learning as much as possible about using canva and soon I found answers for my questions and B.I.N.G.O. I get the KDP template for the paperback and download it into canva. I also was told about a site {can’t remember who told me} that provides tutorials on building a book from start to finish, what a gem of knowledge!

I use copilot for most of my designs but canva has a nice generator too and I have been experimenting with it as of late. Anyway, yesterday night I finished the cover design and am very happy with the way it looks. I can’t revel it to you though, sorry.

Baby Steps

Next I learn how to design the paperback and have to stop or stumble so I stop. Self, what’s next I say and was not thrilled with the simple answer. Go back and grab all my poetry and comb through them for the upteenth time . This time though I seperate them in categories and now am left to decide the order and what goes in and what stays out…again.

This is where I am today and even though it might sound like I wasted time getting here I didn’t {Had to tell myself this over and over}. My first attempt at this is frustrating, exciting, slow, fast and confusing but I’m lovin’ every minute of it, or until my next roadblock anyway.

I wish you all a fabulous Friday night!

  1. You’ve got this. It’s incredibly challenging not only to put a book together but also to design the cover. It took me a long time to figure it out, and I still haven’t mastered it. I often used the free samples that KDP provides. I understand your frustrations. I have four books that are nearly finished, but because of the covers, I haven’t been able to release them. Ugh 🤔😱😡😭

    1. Check out Canva, you can download the KDP template there and make your cover free of charge and save it as png. pdf. might help, I know I’m in for a long haul but being a long haul trucker for many years has me thinking I can and will do it. Thanks for the kind words my friend.

    1. Your fantastic advice saved me tons of frustration and time. Canva is amazing compared to Word. I had no idea about designing the cover right to left and would have had a major meltdown without the KDP template! Had the ebook layed out and then couldn’t figure out the process to add a paperback. Scraped the whole thing and started over, I now have a book cover that I love and per your advice I have reorganized the whole collection. A great big shout out to you!!!
