Dreams of Dilemma

The ruler of an empty castle is a ruler just the same
His only opposition is inside his active brain
To sit upon his throne and enjoy the crowd of one
Is knowing confidence is part of the total sum

Soon a daydream fills the sunny afternoon with delight
Memories of making love with you in the early morning light
Watching you emerge barefoot from the woods begat deep sin
Years later our daughters played where it all began

The dream disappears as the ruler awakes with a vision 
No time to waste in making the next important decision
Leave the dreams and realities of lost family far behind
Go one a one man journey to die or clear his mind

Outside of his kingdom gates the ruler is a common man
He has no idea how time will grant his simple plan
As the sun sets on the first evening he finds a place to rest
And when the dream returns it proves to his last.
