The Past

Sixty-six years of foolishness, learning lessons of life now in my past
I look back with both joy and sadness on wasted years lived too damn fast
Choices made on the spin of a dime, not looking at the future results
Father time presenting me with choices that have quickened my pulse
Fun mixed in with disaster, lessons that couldn't be denied in my soul
Has left me unwrapping my Christmas presents only to find lumps of coal

The Present

Another year of thoughts brought forth through reason and rhyme
Father time is once again closing a chapter on life's journey of the mind
Happiness and confusion has been mixed with pleasure and pain
And at the end of another yearly trip I'm wondering how it all began
A journey of discovery and hope has tried hard to set this soul free
But in the beginning of December I reflect on what it is to be me 

The Future

A man of complete confusion sharing happiness and sorrow in spades
A man of incomplete compassion whose words cut like sharp knife blades
Although my intensions are pure, I can not help but be the man that I am
Knowing that before Christmas I will be hurting loved ones once again
Refusing to shut down and quietly disappear into the void of grey matter 
My quell will continue to write altered thoughts from an old Madhatter
