Prompt Play Day

I find myself all caught up on emails, reader and comments on this site today and told Starpup no reading will be done.

That leaves me with a few prompts to catch up on and since this is another cold ass day, I’m planting the dawg butt in a comfortable chair and playing instead of …well everything else.

I start this post with Sammi’s challenge.

In the land of hurry up
Is chivalry still breathing
Holding the door for a lady
Kissing her hand at the end of a date
Being gallant?

Or is the above statement hopeless?

Followed by Shweta’s #6WSP

The next prompt is a first but couldn’t resist trying. This one comes from John Adams via Clive @Taking it Easy.

This is what I found through the google search. Ernest is a boy’s name of German origin. This strong, classic name translates toย โ€œseriousโ€ and โ€œvigorโ€ย and is clearly reflective of its adjective counterpart, โ€œearnest.โ€ Ernest is likely most famous thanks to prolific author Ernest Hemingway, who penned such classics as The Sun Also Rises and A Farewell to Arms.

I was given this name from my dad who’s best friend was named Ernest. The story I grew up hearing was that shortly before I was born these two burly truck drivers got drunk one night and got into a fight. Dad ending up ripping the shirt off of Ernie and the next day replaced it with a new one. How that affected him naming me I have no clue but as when I was young I learned to quit asking questions when dad gave us that look.

I found this Benny Hill video and cracked up so I’m sharing it with you. Behind this is another song with my name in it that is a classic.

The lyrics are on this and this is a first time hearing this one for me.

Lyrics

Someone’s knockin’ at the door
Somebody’s ringin’ the bell
Someone’s knockin’ at the door
Somebody’s ringin’ the bell
Do me a favor
Open the door and let ’em in

Someone’s knockin’ at the door
Somebody’s ringin’ the bell
Someone’s knockin’ at the door
Somebody’s ringin’ the bell
Do me a favor
Open the door and let ’em in, yeah, let ’em in

Sister Suzie, brother John
Martin Luther, Phil and Don
Brother Michael, auntie Gin
Open the door and let ’em in, yeah

Sister Suzie, brother John
Martin Luther, Phil and Don
Uncle Ernie, auntie Gin
Open the door and let ’em in, yeah

Someone’s knockin’ at the door
Somebody’s ringin’ the bell
Someone’s knockin’ at the door
Somebody’s ringin’ the bell
Do me a favor
Open the door and let ’em in, ooh yeah, let ’em in

Sister Suzie, brother John
Martin Luther, Phil and Don
Uncle Earnie, uncle Lin
Open the door and let ’em in, yeah

Someone’s knockin’ at the door
Somebody’s ringin’ the bell
Someone’s knockin’ at the door
Somebody’s ringin’ the bell
Do me a favor
Open the door and let ’em in, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
