Wants & Needs: Cadillac or Pontiac ?

I’m not feeling the daily prompt or any of the challenges I usually post on, so today do I change the prompt again?

Maybe just tell a story about the past? Hell, I could just pass today all together, naw I’m too awake for that silliness, hell I feel like a chicken running around with his head cut off.

I had made some great progress and was feeling excited to share my news when an ugly storm went through my head like a twister in the Oklahoma spring leaving altered thoughts strewn around with a dose of confusion. I have tried Chantix for the last six months wanting to quit the nicotine sticks I have had stuffed in my my lips for the last 56 years.

Two weeks in found me feeling good and not really “Jonesing” for the nicotine when out of the blue I wanted to have one. It tasted like shit and after a couple of drags, out it went.

The need for a cigarette wasn’t there anymore but the want remained. Slowly over the next few days the feeling became harder and harder to resist. Last night I broke down and bought a pack. My willpower received a giant boot in the butt. Some things are just not meant to be is the answer I’m sticking with on this dilemma.

And this whole marketing thing… I felt ecstatic when I started writing ‘Ink Stained Love” last April, of course that turned into a rollercoaster of love and hate as I learned how to write, format, arrange and edit the pages of the book. This also brought a great sense of relief after seeing how it looked when it hit the ARC stage. I promptly sent out hardback copies that were not completely finished and let myself down on that.

This hit the shelves in January, followed by “Silent Screams in April”. What should have been cause for tremendous celebration turned dark with my Amazon experience. I would like to remove it from their site and will probably do this in the near future.

As I am not some famous author, without pumping cash I don’t have into their already overloaded coiffures to move up their list I don’t see any use for them. I will have it and future projects on my site along with other common stores like B/N B.A.M. and such.

With two books out and my designs growing in popularity I’m should not be bitching right? I apologize friends.

So what’s the good news you ask?

Spring is in the air for starters. Yup, time to go out and bark at the moon or chase pretty girls down to receive some good belly rubs, yeah that sounds good.

And as you know, all good dawgs go to heaven, I’m going in a Pontiac.

  1. I’ve never smoked, Ernie, and I think it’s because my parents did for 6 decades. It didn’t appeal to me, but sugar is my vice which I’m trying to avoid like the plague. :) I hope you can quit eventually. I’m also sorry about your Amazon experience. It’s head-spinning, isn’t it? I was working on Ingram for my Copper book, then hit some walls. Long story that I’ll spare you from. Anyway, now I’m thinking of Draft2Digital. I’d love to pay someone to do all the formatting, etc, but it’s pricey. I’m frustrated because the whole process is taking longer than I thought. But on a joyful note, Happy May to you, and I’m going to check out your books here. Take care!

    1. Smoking came about from a childhood experience while walking home from school in the fifth grade. I was offered the choice of lighting a cigarette or being beat up by a girl while her three brothers stood by waiting to jump in if I tried to protect myself. Times have changed so much since the sixties. After the first one it soon became habit as all my family smoked then. I fight the sugar daily too as I became diabetic about six years ago.
Someone else mentioned Draft2Digital also so I might have to look at them. IngramSparks has been good for me as I always have good experiences with live chat but I see that it is almost never available anymore. For now I think I will concentrate on my site and the books and marketing will need to be on the back burner, at least until I step back and readjust my mind set.
As always Lauren, I enjoy your imput on this, Have a great weekend my friend.

      1. It’s amazing what a little backstory does, Ernie. Now I understand how the smoking came to be, and I’m sorry you were bullied. As to sugar, I’m trying to sever our relationship, or at least, limit visitation. :) I used Ingram for my last 2 books and had no issues. But with Cora’s Quest, I did, and their customer service has dropped in quality. Anyway, I’m trying D2D, so fingers crossed, this one will be a better experience. I wish you the best with all your book ideas, and I’m happy to have one of yours to read. Have a great weekend too! 🤗

  2. Ok, this is just me, but in 2014 I switched from smoking to vaping the bug poison, and recently, switched to 0-Nicotine vapes. You get the hand -to-mouth action, and now I feel like I’m truly over it. But right now I still need them. I hope that soon I’m over all if it, and of course the side effects from quitting nicotine is gaining weight, which I have done I’m sure. Food just TASTES SO GOOD!

  5. What they’re calling “success,” in the artistic worlds as much as the corporate, is increasingly revealed as a pay-to-play scam. Me, I put it out there, and if they want it they can come get it. Page layout specialists are a dime a dozen. I did my part, right?

  6. If you see an old gray-haired lady on the way, I’d appreciate the ride- I’m not going all the way mind you- you can just drop me off when I start seeing my people partying on the side of the road.

    1. I tried vaping a couple of years ago and soon after they found cancer in my right lung. After the operation I have been checked twice a year and remain clean even smoking 1 1/2 packs a day. The doctor seemed to think the vaping is what caused it so I aviod that like a plauge.
I haven’t looked at D2D yet but thank you, I will check them out. I have different sites on my blog to purchase my book and selling through IngramSparks I can offer a 25 % discount or more. You sure are on spot about the sunshine helping my solshine. Have a great day Maggie !!!

      1. Ah okay Ernie 😉 I tend not to read the ins and outs of vaping.
I am glad you are clear my friend.
I think I might try D2D as they distribute to many outlets.
        Marketing sucks doesnt it,.
Unless you have bucks behind you, which we don’t.
        Yayy…awesome, enjoy!
Its 11pm here so nearly sweetdream time for me.
Take good care my friend !

I’m lucky I never smoked. I had a couple dreams in which I was horribly addicted to nicotine and that was enough to dissuade me. That, plus watching my parents struggle with it. My dad ultimately decided to switch to cigarillos. Not exactly quitting, but not as bad for you as the regular ones. Good luck with this, whatever route you take!

  10. My brother is a recovering alcoholic, and has done fantasticly without alcohol but having so much trouble quitting the cigarettes. It’s a tough one to quit, Ernie. Good for you for trying.

    1. Thank you, I find it was no contest between drinking and smoking. Drink was very easy for me to quit and I am an alcoholic too.

  11. Nicotine… I have often pondered the existence of nicotine in a pack of Kools at all. Methinks there is a blend of wicked, addictive substances that claim tobacco as a mere fraction of its content. My conclusion is that tobacco is not nor has ever been the problem. Sending all the fellow author support your way as you prepare to announce the new address (s) for your books!

    1. Thank you so much Annette. I too believe that the additives are what is so bad in cigarettes. I appreicate the kindness of your support on the books. Be blessed today my friend.

  12. An interesting post. I have a lot of books on Amazon and haven’t had any issues with any of them so I’m curious as to what went wrong. PS I found you through Esther Chilton’s guest post.

    1. They will only sell kindle versions of my book, note book and getting my second one even on their site is not happening so after a bad conversation with support I don’t see any reason to let them make money off of my work.

Oh dear about the ciggy setback. Hope you can put that behind you now and continue being a non smoker.
